1982 William Riddle “Doc” Marshall
An early 1900’s professional baseball player. who competed with such immortals as Three Finger Brown, and John McGraw. He began his career in 1904 with the Phillies, and was sold mid-season to the Boston Braves. The NY Giants purchased him in mid 1906 and then sold him to the St. Louis as a catcher. IN late 1908 the Cubs bought him to handle Three Finger Brown. The Cubs won teh pennant and it was Doc’s second World Series appearance. Baseball was a stepping stone to his next career in the medical profession. He became president of the Cook County Medical Assn. until his death in 1959.
