Outstanding basketball and football, and track at Mars HS. He went on to play baseball, basketball and football at Edinboro University earning conference honors. He also spent a couple seasons with the Cincinnati Reds before he began a long coaching career. His first coaching job was basketball with Penn Twp. , then he took a position in basketball and football at Evans City. He moved on to coach basketball and football at Edinboro University. From Edinboro he accepted a job as coach at Boston College, then went to Harvard to coach their baseball team, winning the Eastern League five time, with four trips to the College World Series. He was named New England Coach of the Year three times. His first AD job was at Salem College in West Virginia and then accepted the same position at Loyola University of Chicago where he served for many years.
