A 1985 Knoch HS graduate where he excelled as a track participant, in particular the javelin throw. He set the new school record for Knoch in 1985 with a throw of 210′ 4″. At Knoch he won the Butler Invitational, the Fort Pitt Invitational, and the WPIAL championship his senior year. He placed third at the PIAA championships. He moved on to Slippery Rock University where in 1989 he set the Slippery Rock University javelin record with a toss of 230′ 2″.
