The 1965 Hickory HS graduate, where he averaged 17.5 points per game in basketball, earning MVP honors in Mercer County. A three year letterman at Hickory HS. he served as team captain and named Mercer County MVP his senior year. He also was named Honorable Mention All- State, won the W. U. Hoyle Award during the Hoyle Tournament of Champions. He then went on to become a 1969 Slippery Rock University graduate where he was named the men’s basketball team captain his senior year. The 6′ guard averaged 18.8 points per game and led the team in rebounding. He was named First team Pennsylvania Athletic Conference his junior and senior years, and selected All-District First Team by the Post Gazette in 1969. He won the Pop Storer Memorial Award as the outstanding senior athlete his senior year at SRU. He went on to a very successful basketball coaching career starting at Moniteau HS, taking teams to two team tournaments with a 172-81 overall record from 1970-79. He was named conference coach of the year five times. He led the Warriors to their only Clarion County basketball championship in 1975. He ten became an assistant men’s basketball coach at Westminster College, and also was the head track coach. And then became the head men’s basketball coach at Butler County Community College from 1982 – 85 he enjoyed seasons of 18-5, 23-5, and 23-5, twice winning the state NJCAA Championships. He ten coached at Slippery Rock University from 1985-93, which are some of the university’s best seasons in the program’s history. He posted an overall record of 129-113, and four 20 plus win seasons. he led the Rock to the only two appearances in the NCAA D-II tournament in school history at that time. The 1990 team finished ranked # 2 in the nation. He coached five All-Americans and three players who played professionally.
